Writer’s bios of the Notepad team!
Thomas Caterer
I am a screenwriter, film director, and writer of poems and short stories from the UK. I am based in beautiful Taiwan. I have previously lived in China, and Japan as well.
I enjoy working in a variety of genres. Some recurring themes in my work include death positivity, conciousness, psychedellic experiences, freedom and oppression, and survival and compassion. I particulary enjoy works where humour can be found in strange, surreal, and dark places.
In 2016 I founded Yanagi Studios (https://yanagistudios.co.uk). In 2020 I founded Notepad Stories. I am very excited to see these pojects grow, with input from other creatives!
In March 2025 I founded the Taipei Filmmaking Club. This group is intended to bring filmmakers together to work on creative projects, build a network of collaborators, and to establish a community in Taipei which is based on a mutual passion for filmmaking and storytelling. I am a writer, historian, and philosopher from the UK but have lived in Korea and Japan. I wrote my first story when I was 8 years old about the statue in the old town high street coming alive at night. I have several literary interests and write and maintain history (http://thehistorybites.wordpress.com) and travel (http://risingfun.wordpress.com) blogs. I’m interested in history and how it shapes our world, something rightly put at the forefront of my world building.

I am an eager amateur in many creative fields, often overflowing with concepts. Most of my ideas reach the point of rough plans and early drafts before being cast aside for something new. The stories and poems featured herein are those lucky few to escape this cycle. My creativity has recently been funneled into creating characters and campaigns for table top roleplaying, a medium that is serving well as a focus and is reinvigorating a desire to weave grand narratives. Hopefully this will translate into writing more stories sometime soon.
